Five Letter (Almost Not) Friday: Volume 11

It is nearly 11 p.m as I begin to type this. I am not sure how I forgot about posting this. I blame the fact that I worked for hours and hours and hours this week getting everything ready in my preschool classroom. Last night was Open House and I met 24 beautiful new 3 year olds who I get the pleasure of teaching this year. Then I came home and collapsed in exhaustion. Then today, I worked at the daycare and completely forgot that it was even Friday.

So, let's see if I can type up 5 letters before it's midnight and it's no longer Friday.

Today's first letter comes from Jonathan who just seems to be responding to a few letters I wrote.

Jonathan is 9 years old, lives in Burkina Faso, and he wrote this letter on August 2nd, 2018.

Hi Dear Kayla,

How are you? What about your family? I am happy that your family members have good health. I hope they have that forever. I am fine with my family, thanks to God. I've moved up to the 4th grade. I like playing ball with my friends. Thank you for the letters. Goodbye!

It fills me with great joy to write you this letter. I hope that you and your beautiful family are in good health. I am very happy to write and draw for you. Three Letter Tuesday: Volume 10

Ahhh! It's Tuesday!!

Only two more days until preschool open house!

How will I get everything done?!

I have no idea.

So let's type up letters instead.

Letters always make me feel better.

Today's first letter comes from a cute Thai boy named Tern. He wrote to me on the My Typical Week template.

Tern is 6 years old, lives in Thailand, and wrote this letter on July 15th, 2018.

________________________________________________________________________________

1. I typically get up at: 6:00 a.m
and go to sleep at: 8:00 p.m

2. In the morning I usually: Brush my teeth and take a bath

3. My favorite day of the week is: Saturday & Sunday because there is no school

4. I go to the project on: Saturday

5. My favorite activity to do during the weekend is: Play with friends

6. In the afternoon, I typically: Do my homework

Dear Kayla,

How have you been? It is time for Tern to write to you again. I am his aunt. I am writing on behalf of him because he can't write on his own yet. Thank you for your letter and fairytale story. The tale taught us not to lie. He likes to go cycling on the farm with his grandmother to feed their chickens. His grandfather caught a lot of fish while fishing because there are a lot of fish after it rains. He helps his grandparents do many things, especially housework. He likes to go cycling with his friends. Do you like cycling? There is a campaign in Thailand about cycling to save energy. It is also a good way to exercise. Last month, he had the chance to attend an anti-corruption event too. Please pray for his parents who work in the city and also for his studies. May God bless you.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Next is a letter from Carlos. At this point, every letter from him is just a blessing. I can't believe he's going to graduate from Compassion just about 5 months. I've been writing to him for so long!

Carlos is 17 years old, lives in Honduras, and his letter is not dated.

________________________________________________________________________________

Hello Dear Kayla!

I hope that you are very well in your health and also in your activities. I want to tell you that in my house I sleep in a bed. In my house we get tap water. My house is made of cement blocks, the floor is cement, and the roof is tile. I thank you for the letter you sent me. I want to tell you the story about The Ugly Duckling is very beautiful. It is a funny story and I enjoyed reading it at school. Everything was very nice because we presented our work in July. In this month, The Day of the Indian Lempira is celebrated with a lot of traditional food. What kind of celebrations do you do in your city in July? I want to ask you to pray for me so I can do well in my studies. Also pray for my family. I say goodbye to you with kisses and hugs. Until next time, May God bless you.

Carlos

_________________________________________________________________________________

The last letter from today is from Jule. Poor guy really seems to struggle in school. I do hope that Compassion can help him learn other skills so that he may have a successful future. I seems that even with low grades, it's still considered a "pass." I do wish that teachers wouldn't simply pass students to the next grade if they aren't ready for it. Unfortunately, it seems there are quite a few students doing even worse. Sounds like his school needs some help...

Jule is 14 years old and is from Rwanda. His letter is dated August 7th, 2018.

________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

I, your child Jule, greet you in the name of Jesus Christ. I appreciate you and your family for your continued care unto me. My family and I are fine. Over the last term, I emerged 22nd in class with marks of 46%. The term before, I was 34th with a score of 42%. There are 49 students in my class. The rainy season is underway in our country. I have started learning how to carry things while riding a bicycle. While at school, I like reading stories whenever I can. I get involved in them to the extent that if you call me, I won't hear you. I thank you for the letter you sent to me, about the beanstalk. This story pleased me so much. From it, I learned to be satisfied with the things I have and not encroaching on others' property. I conclude, wishing you God's blessings.

Five Letter Friday: Volume 10

Somehow, it's Friday.

I've spent every single free hour this week in my classroom, trying to get everything done for the preschool year to start.

I will never get everything done.

Open house is next Thursday.

Everything with not be done.

I will have to accept that.

But, the joy of letters never stops.

Here are our five letters for today:

We start with a letter from Joel, who seems to be doing wonderfully! I am hoping for great things in his future!

Joel is 17 years old, lives in Mexico, and his letter is dated June 9th.

________________________________________________________________________________

Hello Dear Kayla,

I want to thank you for writing to me and telling me nice stories that I enjoyed. In this letter, I want to tell you how I have been doing in school. These are my last days at school and very soon I'm going to take my admissions exam for university. I'm very happy because I have finished another goal in my life and with the help of God, I am ready to start a new challenge in my life. It will be one of the most difficult because I will have to leave my house and learn lots of new things. God willing, I hope to pass my exam and continue studying. Thank you for the present you sent me. With it, I was able to buy a pair of pants and two shirts. Please pray for my studies and my family, so we are exemplary Christians and for my sister and me to do well in school and that we are exemplary children for other people. I would like to ask you, what is summer like where you live? What do you do in your summer vacations? Where do you go to? Do you like sports? I want to thank you for being my sponsor and telling me great stories.

Onto a letter from another young adult, a letter from Lina. She had been studying nursing, but had to quit due to lack of funds. It sounds like things are difficult for her right now. I hope that God can show her what next steps to take in life.

Lina is 19 years old, she is from Colombia, and she wrote this letter on July 4th, 2018.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

I greet you in our Lord Jesus's name. How are you? I want to tell you that there are still many problems between me and my grandmother. Things with my grandmother have not improved. Also, I cannot continue studying nursing and I can't get certification. Someday I would like to visit South Korea and learn about their culture and self-discipline. I would like to participate in contemporary dance. I would like to be like Job because he was a man of faith. I would like to meet and talk with you. I want to thank you for your support. I'd like to become a pediatrician. My dream is to help my family because we have hard times. I would be nice to improve our quality of life. What did you want to become when you were a child? I thank you again for your support and prayers. I ask you again to please pray for difficult situations that we have in our house. I will pray for you. Finally, I say goodbye and I wish you blessings. I give you the Bible verse Psalm 103:1-22. I send you a hug.

Lina

Today's final letter is from my boy Dagim. I've been saying it a lot lately, but I am so glad I decided to send a popular children's story to my kids each month. I have been getting so many good responses. Storytelling really seems to be something that is universal. Everyone appreciates a good story. :)

Dagim is 10 years old, lives in Ethiopia, and his letter is dated July 25th, 2018.

_______________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

My dear family, how are you doing? I'm doing very well with my family. I'm so glad and thankful for your letter. I love the story of The Ugly Duckling. I got a great lesson from it. I learned that I shouldn't judge my friends by their current status because I don't know what their future will be. Thank you very much for sharing such a nice story with me. Please pray that I can have a nice and successful future. I would be so happy if you would share more stories with me. Thank you very much for your prayers and financial support. I love you very much. Until the next letter, be well. Goodbye.

Yours,
Dagim

The letter in the middle today comes from one of my favorite (they're all my favorite) young men. He's super busy at this point of his life and doesn't write quite as often as he used to, but that just makes each letter that much more of a treasure.

Jhon is 19 years old, lives in Bolivia, and he wrote this letter on July 18th, 2018.

________________________________________________________________________________

Hello Dear Sponsor Kayla,

I greet you with the peace of the Lord. Thank you for the story of the Ugly Duckling. Here in my country, we call it a fairy tale. My mom told me that story when I was 8 years old. The story is nice and it made me remember old days. I want to tell you that we had a sport competition at the project. It started on a Monday and ended on a Wednesday. On the first day, children from 6 to 8 years old played again another project. After that children from 8 to 10 years old, and so on. We won some games and lost some games. There were many observers of the competition because the ones that were not part of the project were not allowed to play. It was nice and we had a nice time, at least I did. My family and I are fine and healthy, thanks to God. I want to tell you that I am studying industrial informatics at an institute. I am in the first semester and I'm doing fine, for now. Please pray for my family and for any sick people. I say goodbye with the peace of the Lord. May God keep you and always take care of you.

Jhon

This next letter is from a lovely, young lady from Colombia; Yeidys. This letter makes me chuckle a bit because I get the impression that she has had some bad behavior in school, by the way she talks about her current behavior. I can certainly relate to that. ;)

Yeidys is 13 years old and her letter is dated July 3rd, 2018.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

Hello. How are you? May God bless you. I want to tell you about my dreams. I want you to know that someday I would like to go to New York. I would like to travel by plane to Paris. I also would like you to know that I want to be like Karol Sevilla, my favorite actress and singer. I would like to meet you someday and talk to you and know more about you. I also want to thank you in person for choosing me as your sponsored child and I want to give you a kiss and a hug. When I get older, I want to be a civil engineer. I want to help my family with my job because they always support and encourage me and they give me good advice. I also want you to know that I am healthy. Thanks to God, I am doing well in school and I'm behaving myself in school, thanks to God. I want to ask you to pray for me, as I have done for you. Thank you for the letters and pictures you send to me. You look so pretty and your mother too. To say goodbye, I want to share a Bible verse from Proverbs 31:10.

Yeidys

I end today's list of letters with a letter that comes with fabulous artwork. This letter comes from my girl Rujikorn. If you've been following my blog, you already know that Rujikorn's letters always come with amazing drawings. She really is quite talented. I just love when she draws landscapes of where she lives, which she did in this letter.

Rujikorn is 14 years old, lives in Thailand, and her letter is dated July 13th, 2018.

Dear Kayla,

Hello. I am thankful to you for the letter and photo I received from you. I like your storytelling so much. I am really interested in it. My family and I are doing well. I hope that you and everyone in your family are also doing well. I have fun going to school. I have done many entertainment activities with the project. There are sports too. Sometimes my friends and I attend the sports competitions against other projects. It is a lot of fun. I always attend activities at the project. I have learned different things; both in vocational training and spiritual training. It's very useful to me. I go to church every Sunday. My friends and I help lead the church service to give glory to God. I like your stories so much. Thank you for your love and for sharing everything with me. I like every story and the pictures that go along with them. I read them and they make me excited. I am thankful to God for meeting you. You are a person who gives me encouragement. You always pray for me. I would like to ask you to pray for my schooling and my parents' work. I keep you in my prayers always. May God protect you and give you strength always.

A Large Influx of Kids!

For you quick-eyed folks, you may have seen some new faces on my blog page. Or...perhaps you haven't because at this point, you have to scroll quite far down to see my whole list of kids. Whew!

But either way, 10 new kiddos have recently joined my family! A friend of mine was writing to many correspondent kids and recently has found herself quite a bit more busy than usual and has found herself unable to write consistently to her kids. Instead of just letting them go, she asked me if I would be able to take on writing to them. That way, she knows for sure that they will receive regular letters and she'll be able to keep up with any updated photos or information about them.

Naturally, I accepted! So let's welcome the following kiddos to my family:

8 Year Old Dennis - Kenya

11 Year Old Anny - Guatemala

17 Year Old Elvis - Kenya

7 Year Old Raibel - Dominican Republic

16 Year Old Juan Camilo - Colombia

16 Year Old Romli - Tanzania

9 Year Old Semira - Ethiopia

12 Year Old Hansen - Indonesia

7 Year Old Angeline - Kenya

13 Year Old Mirajul - Bangladesh

This next letter is from a boy I've had pretty long-term. He's become such a treasured child to me. He went from this shy, not confident boy, who had below average grades in school to this lovely, confident, chatty boy, with above average grades in school. His letters have really been such a great transformation!

Jonatan is 10 years old, lives in Colombia, and he wrote this letter on July 6th, 2018.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

I greet you with many hugs. I am happy to hear from you and to know that you are fine. My family and I are fine. My father's name is Pedro and my mother's name is Laudis. My sister's name is Viviana and my brother's name is Samuel. My father works selling Avena Cubana (Oatmeal Drink). He prefers to drink it himself, too. Would you like to taste it? Your letters are very beautiful. You tell fantastic stories. I especially liked the one of the beautiful, little duck. That teaches us to not reject anyone even if they are poor, are of African descent, or if they don't have higher education. I would like to meet you someday and hug you tight. I ask you to pray for me. I will pray for you. I send you a beautiful Bible verse, 1 Corinthians 15:51-52.

Jonatan

This next letter is a chatty, detail-filled letter from Jhojaira. It's so fun writing to older kids when they learn to write letters better and open up more.

Dear Sponsor Kayla,

I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus. I hope you are in good health. Thank you for all the letters you sent me these months. I like to read a lot of the lessons you write to me. I also like to learn something new every day. Let me tell you that I finished my first semester of classes in June and I got first place. I would say that some important events in my family's life happened this month. One of them is that my cousin from Spain came here to Peru and we had some nice moments together. Even though they already left, we are happy to know that they are healthy. How have you been during these last few months? I hope you are doing well and are enjoying these moments along with your family and close friends. I ask you to pray for my older brother who has traveled to another place. I now finish these lines with a big hug.

Love,
Jhojaira

Dear Kayla,

How are you? Me and my family are fine. I am happy and thank you for the letter. I am happy to hear Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I have learned that we don't touch other's property without permission. Class is good and we are going to take the 2nd semester exam. Pray for me to get a good grade. It is hot here and summer will start in one week. Is it hot in your country? I love you so much. I say goodbye until we meet in our next letter.

Yours,
Dagim
