Three Letter Tuesday: Volume 18

It's Tuesday!

It's 7:30 a.m and I leave for work at 8:00 a.m.

Let's see if I can focus enough to get these typed up before I leave. ;)

Super typing powers: ENGAGE!.

Today's first letter comes from Yohannis. It's just a short letter, a few sentences long. Yohannis lives in Ethiopia, where it's not only a different month than it is here, it's an entirely different year. They follow a different calendar than the rest of the world, so it can get confusing, at times.

Yohannis is 9 years old. His letter is dated (according to our calendar) September 25th, 2018.

_______________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

How are you? Me and my family are fine. I am very happy to receive your letter. Me and my family are very glad to hear from you. Now it is January here. That is the month where we start class and meet new friends, so I am very happy! Goodbye!

Yours,
Yohannis

Next is a letter from my eternally chatty guy, Daniel. It's been such a pleasure getting to know him all these years!

Daniel is 13 years old and lives in Colombia. His letter is dated September 1st, 2018.

________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

Hello, dear sponsor. How have you been doing? I am grateful for your sponsorship all this time. My last medical checkup was in January 2018 because my chest was hurting a lot. I went to the doctor with my dad and I was happy that they examined me. My doctor advised me to eat lots of fruits and vegetables, drink plenty of water, and participate in sports. They examined my chest with a stethoscope. I want to ask you some questions. When is your birthday? What is your favorite food? Where do you live? I want to tell you that we have many activities in our CDC, like music, sports, academic reinforcement, cooking, and medical checkups. I also want to tell you that I am doing well in school. God has blessed my family. Our CDC took us to fly kites on August 23rd. Our church took us to fly kites too. I say goodbye with a bear hug and a kiss. I will be praying for you and your entire family. I ask you to pray for me and my family too. I give you this bible verse: Jeremiah 29:11.

Daniel

We end today's post with another letter from the same country, this time from Lina. I must say, that out of all of my kiddos, the kids from Colombia have always been the most chatty of the bunch, right from the get-go.

Lina is 19 years old and wrote this letter on September 9th, 2018.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Sponsor Kayla,

Greetings to you and may God bless you. How have you been? I want to tell you that my family and I are doing great because finally, after 10 years of not seeing my father, I will be able to visit him soon. I also want to tell you that my last medical checkup was in April of this year. It was my yearly checkup at the project. I was there with the doctor and I felt calm. She weighed me and measured me and she recommended medicine for gastritis and for my menstrual cramps. Where do your parents live? What do they do for a living? About your questions, the doctor recommended regular visits to her for tests to find out why my menstrual cramps hurt so much. Thank you for your spiritual and economic help. Please pray for my brother as he does his military service. Also pray for a house for my family. I want to say goodbye. I hope that God protects you and blesses you always. I want to share Psalm 86: 1-17 with you to meditate on.

Lina

We'll wrap up today's post with a letter from Daniel, who is telling me about some of his hopes and dreams for the future. This young man is so smart and determined. I have no doubt he can accomplish anything he sets his mind to.

Dear Kayla,

Hello, dear sponsor. I am very happy to greet you again and to thank you for your sponsorship. Someday I would like to go to Russia, London, Canada, and Ecuador. I would like to jump from an airplane. Someday I would like to be like my mom and dad. Someday I would like to meet my sponsor because I want to thank her. When I grow up I would like to be a lawyer, a Certified Personal Accountant, and a soccer player. Someday I would like to help my family because they give me a healthy life and my daily needs. I also tell you that I would like to participate in BMX, but I have not been able to because I do not have the right bike, but I trust in God that he will give me one. When is your birthday? I ask you to pray for my family and for me and for the CDC. I want to give you this Bible verse: Isaiah 26:3. May God bless you.

Three Letter Tuesday: Volume 1

Today's three letters all come from the same country. In honor of their most recent World Cup match win, today's letters come from Colombia! From youngest to oldest...

Let's start with Jonatan's letter. He is 10 years old and wrote this letter on May 4th, 2018.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

I want to greet you in the love of God. I want to tell you that thanks to God I have been very well in my school grades. I had a good grade point average and my sister was happy about that. I also want to tell you that in this month of May, we celebrate Mother's Day in Colombia. We make small presents to recognize their love for us. I want to make a small gift for my mother because I want to show her how much I love her and how thankful I am to her for being the best mother. I am also going to give her a present for her birthday on May 15th. I thank God very much for being part of your family and for your beautiful letters. I would like to know what month you celebrate Mother's Day where you live. I hope you are happy to read my letter the same way I am happy to write it. I send you a huge hug. I hope I can see you soon. I love you very much. This is a promise to you: Proverbs 31:29.

Jonatan

________________________________________________________________________________

Up next is a letter from Daniel, who is 12 years old. His letter is dated May 12th, 2018. Sometimes I am confused by the questions my kids ask me. Do you think they are told what questions to ask? After so many years, you think Daniel would already know the answers to the questions he's asking in this letter.

________________________________________________________________________________

Hello Dear Sponsor,

I am glad to be able to write to you again and tell you more about me and my family.

I want to thank you for the sponsorship you give me because with this opportunity, I am able to attend the project. First, I want to tell you that my dad is a tutor at the CDC. He works with the oldest students, called "Excellent Generation." My mom works doing shifts in a bakery. She also does freelance baking. Tomorrow it will be my brother's birthday. My other siblings are studying and are doing well. How old are you? What's your house like? How many kids do you have? What are their names? What's your favorite food? My favorite food is Badeja Paisa (red beans cooked with pork, white rice, ground beef, chicharron, egg, and plantain). In my city we are in our rainy season. Sometimes it is hot. The river near us overflowed and the fishes came out of it. My name means "Judge and Justice". I am the 3rd child among 4 siblings. I am 150 cm tall. I have dark brown hair and the color of my eyes is dark brown. The best thing I do is drawing. Something I like doing is playing soccer. I ask you to pray for me and my family. I give you this Bible verse: Psalms 4:3. God bless you.

Juan Daniel

________________________________________________________________________________

This last letter is from Ronaldo. It seems his project had the same writing instructions as Daniel's did. I get to hear about some of the physical attributes of Ronaldo, as well as some of his interests, name meaning, etc.

Ronaldo is 21 years old and I will not be able to write to him much longer. Each letter is a blessing. He wrote this letter on May 10th, 2018.

________________________________________________________________________________

Appreciated Kayla,

How are you? May God bless you. It is very interesting for me to learn about the redwood trees and also to see the drawing you sent. I want to tell you that my name means "The Adviser" and "Glorious Governor". I am surprised! I am the 1st born of my family. Maybe my parents didn't know (I really wish I knew what this meant.) I am 170 cm tall. My hair and eyes are dark brown. One of the things I do well is play soccer. I also like practicing flips. What do you call this in your country? Kayla, I want to ask you to keep me in your prayers. I am not only a sponsored child, I am also a health tutor at the project. Being a tutor has been a great experience, and I owe part of it to you. I give thanks to God because he has helped me not to fail him, nor you, nor my family. Even though you are not close to me, you have marked my life and I will always remember you as a great blessing. I love you very much, Kayla. I say goodbye, giving you a Bible verse from Peter 4:8, "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins."

This post will end with two letters from Colombia, from the two boys I still can't help referring to my CO-384 boys, even though only one boy still attends that project and the other moved. But still, old habits die hard.

Let's start with the child who actually attends project CO-384, Jonatan. Things seem to be going very well for me and he drew me a lovely picture! He's turning into quite a budding artist.

Jonatan is 10 years old. His letter is dated February 3rd, 2018.

End of 2017 Letters: Part 2

Let's read some more letters! Whoo hoo!

We'll begin with a letter from Enmanuel from the Dominican Republic. He promises a photo in his next letter. I really hope he remembers!

Enmanuel is 9 years old and his letter is dated November 1st, 2017.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Hello Dear Kayla,

God bless you. I want to know how you are. How are you doing? I'd like to know how you celebrate Christmas. You asked me a question and yes, I can send you a photo and I will send you one after my birthday celebration. Until then, I will do my best to draw a picture of my family. I ask you to pray for me and my family. I'll be praying for you and your family.

________________________________________________________________________________

Now a letter from my sweet, not-so-little guy, Daniel. His letters are always such a joy to read. I've had a mystery connection with Daniel since the very beginning. There is just something special about him, to me.

Daniel is 12 years old and lives in Colombia. His letter is dated October 24th, 2017.

________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

Hello dear sponsor. How have you been? I am glad to greet you again and to communicate with you nicely. I now answer your questions so you can know more about me. My favorite clothes are jeans and t-shirts so I can look young. My favorite foods are cooked plantains, steak with onions, and rice. God has blessed me with a beautiful place to live. I live with my dad and he is a tutor at the CDC. I also live with my mom, who works in a bakery. My siblings are Adrian, Ingrid, and Miguel. We all live together in a house that God has given us. It has two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a big patio. Regarding my CDC, it has two floors. On the upper floor, there are 3 classrooms, toilets, an office, the file room, and the computer room for our homework. On the ground floor, there is a huge dining room, the TV room, the kitchen, and other toilets. What I like to do in my spare time is play soccer. What I most like to do is spend time with my siblings. I have spent many nice and funny moments with them. I do not remember the last time I attended a party, but I'm sure I had a good time. My best friend is God, however I spent the most time with my friend Julian. My advice for younger children is to not be rude. Thanks for keeping in mind my sister's 15th birthday. I will celebrate my birthday with my family and I will share snacks with them. I moved to another neighborhood and I started studying in a new school. There are 41 girls and 41 boys. Some of them are friendly and some others are complex. I see you had and saw an eclipse. How was that experience for you? I hope to watch a sun eclipse someday. I thank you so much for sharing with me. Pray for me so much. Read Psalm 23. I love you so much.

Daniel

Next, a letter from Brian. The letter is lacking some detail, but the drawing he sent me is pretty great!

Brian is 16 years old and lives in Kenya. His letter is dated November 18th, 2017.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

Receive warm greetings in Jesus' name. I'm hoping that you are fine together with your family. My family and I are doing well and God has been our protector. I love Jesus as my personal savior and I usually go to church every Sunday. I am working hard in school so that I can get good grades and attend a good university. Before I wind up, I have a memory verse to share. It comes from Proverbs 15:15, which says, "The days of the wicked are wretched, but the good have continual feast." I wish you a Merry Christmas and happy new year. Thank you for your support and God bless you.

How about a letter from Ronaldo now? :)

Ronaldo is 20 years old and lives in Colombia. He wrote this letter on October 25th, 2017.

______________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

How are you? I love it when you write to me. I loved the eclipse photos. Here in my country, the sky hasn't darkened like it did there, but I have seen several eclipses. It is a unique experience. I would like to answer all of your questions, but I don't have much space. I want to tell you that my best friend is Josue. We like going to the countryside and playing our favorite sport, soccer. My favorite actor is Sylvester Stallone. I love eating seasoned rice with shredded chicken. I love the color blue in all its shades. What is your favorite color? My favorite activity is going to the movies. I am so grateful to you for helping me in the project. It is thanks to your support that I have so many friends and we have built a very good relationship. I have learnt a lot about the gospel of Christ. I ask you please to pray for my family. I say goodbye with this Bible verse from Ephesians 2:8-9, "God saved you by his grace when you believed. You can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things have done, so none of us can boast about it."

Ronaldo

Dear Kayla,

Hi! How are you this time? If you would ask about me, I am fine/good. Thanks for your letter. I really enjoyed reading it. Here are my answers to some of your questions. I enjoy eating pork and it is what we are eating here today. Our house is made of cement. Our center's atmosphere is beautiful and I enjoy playing basketball here. What makes me laugh are jokes or when I ride on my skates. Last year I attended a party in our center. The name of my best friend is Almaris. My advice for kids under my age is to obey their parents. I am learning so many things about the word of God in our center. I have joined also in a "cell group." Please pray for God to give me good health, for me to be able to continue schooling in the next year. Where will you celebrate Christmas? I have loved message in this verse here, in Psalm 139:14, "You are fearfully and wonderfully made." God bless you.

Four Calling...Photo Updates!

Haha. I just can't stop singing The 12 Days of Christmas, so naturally, with it being stuck in my head, that lame title just kind of popped out.

But, I do have photo updates from 4 kids to share with you. I love photo updates so much! And it's especially great, because a few of these photo updates came just 18 months after the last one!

As always, you can click on each photo to see it larger.

Just Several Lovely Letters

As the title suggests, I will be sharing several letters today. Let's get started....

with a letter from my daughter Faith. Love this girl so much.

Faith is 11 years old and lives in Kenya. Her letter is dated September 9th, 2017.

________________________________________________________________________________

Hello Kayla!

It's my hope that you are fine. I'm fine too. God has taken care of me and all my other family members. I received the letters you sent to me and I'm so thankful for your remembrance. I am going to answer the questions you have asked me.

I like wearing dresses mostly, red and white in color. Today for lunch, I ate rice, cabbage, and meat. My home is made of bricks and concrete and it has 3 rooms. In the compound of our project, there are flowers, trees, and many buildings. There are offices and classrooms. If I had a free hour I would go to the field to play. I like playing football very much. I last attended a party in May this year. My best friend is Monanie and we go to school together. I would advise other people to be obedient and love one another.

I will be in primary school for the next two years. In Kenya, students go to secondary school at the age of 13 or 14. We experienced some drought in our place, but we thank God for he has kept us. In our country, the general elections were conducted, but due to some issues, the presidential election is to be repeated on October 17th. Just pray for us. Otherwise, thanks so much and have a nice time.

Good bye!

Now a letter from another one of my preteens, my wonderful boy Daniel, who is from Colombia. Who wrote this letter on August 18th, 2017.

________________________________________________________________________________

Hello Dear Sponsor,

I am glad to say hello to you and I hope you're doing fine. I want to tell you about my friends. They are Jesus, Santiago, Buitrago, Sofia, and Camila, but my best friend is Jesus and I met him at school. What I like the most about him is the fact that he is friendly, responsible, and intelligent. I like to have friends because they always help me, they are friendly, they play with me, and they don't disappoint me. I want to give thanks to you for your letters and your sponsorship because it is a great help to me and my family. I want to tell you that I am doing well in school. I ask you to pray for God to continue to help me. I would like to ask you: Do you have many friends? Do you like to have friends? The Bible says, "A friend loves at all times and a brother is born for a time of adversity." I say goodbye for now with lots of hugs and kisses.

Juan Daniel

God bless you. I am the teacher of Bryan. The boy expresses that he goes to the park to play ball with other children and enjoys visiting with his parents. He says he feels happy sending you this letter. He says goodbye with a hug and kiss.

Dear Kayla,

I greet you in the name of Jesus Christ, hoping you are fine together with your family. My family and I are fine and God has been our protector. I am happy to write you a letter again. I received the letters that you wrote for me. I read the letters and they were very inspiring and I am happy to know more about your country. I am working hard in school, where I expect to have good grades by the end of the year. Before I wind up, I have a memory verse to share. It comes from the book of Psalm 125:1, which says, "Those who trust in the Lord they are like Mount Zion, which can not be shaken, but endures forever." Thank you for your support. May God bless you.

Good bye.

And Now, Words from my CO-384 Boys

Unfortunately, that is the last time that you will see that phrase uttered on my blog. I no longer have two CO-384 boys. Don't worry, I didn't lose one of them, but my oldest boy, who had been attending project CO-384, has moved to another community and is now attending project CO-372.

I am keep these two letters labeled as they are because at the time the letters were written, both boys were still attending CO-384. Through my letters, I had encouraged both of these boys to be friends and watch out for each other. I have no idea if they actually did that, but if they did, I wonder if they are missing each other after this move.

Both boys are just writing general letters, sometimes answering my questions and sometimes writing whatever they want. Sometimes my CO kids are given themes to write about and this seems to be more of a free write. Both of these boys are great letter writers, so I appreciate the freedom they were given.

To start, Jonatan's letter. He is 9 years old and wrote his letter on June 23rd, 2017.

Hello Godmother,

I greet you with a lot of love. I want you to know how happy I am at the project. I am participating in soccer training for a championship that we will have in October. I am on vacation from school. I have accompanied by dad to work. He sells empanadas and oatmeal drinks in the plaza. In my free time I play with marbles, play soccer, and play on my tablet. When I am bored, I lie down to sleep. I have the most fun with jumping rope. Receive many greetings from my parents and siblings. I send you kisses and hugs. Precious sponsor, I am happy to hear that you are having a good time with your friends. Thank you for the bible verse that you dedicate to me. May God bless you. The verse for you is Joshua 1:7.

And now the kiddo I will call my little big guy until he goes through some kind of growth spurt. ;)

Sweet Daniel seems to have been about the same size for as long as I've been writing to him. I think it's pretty adorable.

Daniel is 12 years old and also wrote his letter on June 23rd, 2017.

Dear Kayla,

Appreciated sponsor, I greet you in the love of the Lord and always praying to Him for you. I tell you that I am doing well in school and that I work hard every day to achieve success and make my parents happy and also for you to feel proud of me.

I would like you to know that I play soccer with my classmates and I also play soccer with the children of the church. They are very respectful. I love the Lord. I thank Him for the life and the blessings he gives me every day.

I like to spend time with my family and make them laugh at my jokes. At the project, I enjoy drawing and I also like to socialize with all the children and share with them the works that are done in class.

I like ice cream and fruit salad a lot. When I go to bed, I start singing praise songs with my dad and I fall asleep in the heat of the Earth. I send you a hug and a giant kiss.

Thank you, sponsor, for your letters. I always wait for your news, longing to hear from you. Thank you for introducing me to another friend. I will pray for Dagim and for you, that the Lord will always protect you both. I tell Dagim to remain a good child and continue to get good grades in school. Your news makes me very happy.

I appreciate you so much and I hope that God keeps blessing you, along with your family. I give you this promise, from Psalm 91:7.

Daniel
