Three Letter Tuesday: Volume 26

Let's get right to it today!

Our first letter comes from Yohannis, who seems to attend a pretty great project. I love hearing specifically how our kids benefit.

Yohannis is 9 years old, lives in Ethiopia, and he wrote this letter on November 19th, 2018.

_________________________________________________________________________________

For My Beloved Kayla,

How are you doing? Me and my family are doing just fine, thanks to God. I am very happy that you are my sponsor because I am going to school just like my friends, with all the supplies I need. The project buys me clothes, books, uniforms, and lots of other things. I thank you so much and I thank God for giving me you. If God didn't bless me with you, I wouldn't be going to school. May God bless you. I am now a handsome and happy child. My family loves you too. Do you love me and my family? I will close my letter by giving you my word to work hard at school.

Your Child,
Yohannis

The next letter we read tonight comes from Juan Camilo. He seems like such a joyful young man!

Juan Camilo is 17 years old and lives in Colombia. His letter is dated November 26th, 2018.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

Blessings in the name of Jesus. In this letter, I want to let you know my deepest gratitude for your daily support and your lovely letter that you sent me. I really laugh at the funny story you sent and the story about the shoes gives us a great teaching. Today I'd like to tell you what I do during the week, Monday through Friday. I get up at 6:00 a.m in order to get ready to go to school on time. In the afternoon, I do homework and play soccer with my friends. At night, I sit down on our terrace to chat with my family. Sometimes, I go to the field near my house to see some soccer games. Then, I go to sleep around 10:00 or 10:30 p.m. My favorite day of the week is Sunday because I go to church and have more time to play. Please pray for me that I will do well in school. How are you doing? I say goodbye with this lovely Bible verse: Philippians 4:6.

Goodbye,
Juan Camilo

Today's final letter also comes from Ethiopia. We come full circle, even if it's a tiny circle. ;)

This letter is from Tamire, who doesn't appear to have been feeling very chatty today.

Tamire is 9 years old and she wrote this letter on December 7th, 2018.

_______________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

I send you my greeting to the place where you are. My lovely sponsor, how are you doing? I and my family members are doing well. How about you? I am very happy when receiving your letter. Please pray for my country, my family, and my education. Till the next letter, bye!

Tamire

Five Letter Friday: Volume 23

I don't have any intro today.

Here are letters.

The first letter is from from Tamire. She seems to be a girl of few words this time around.

Tamire is 9 years old, lives in Ethiopia, and her letter is dated October 29th, 2018.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

How are you and your family doing? I and my family are doing well. I have received your letter and I love the pictures you sent. I love you very much. Be safe!

________________________________________________________________________________

Next up is a letter from Celeste. It feels like it's been forever since I last heard from her. It's so good to hear that she is doing well. She is clearly responding to a letter that I wrote in August, about getting ready for my new class of students arrive. She wrote this letter at the end of October, and by then, I'd had my "new students" for two whole months.

Celeste is 15 years old, lives in Honduras, and her letter is dated October 22nd, 2018.

________________________________________________________________________________

Hello Dear Sponsor Kayla,

It gives me great joy writing this letter. I hope that you are in good health with your family. I am happy that you are preparing to receive your new students. I am looking forward to another letter from you because you will send a photo of your classroom. I want to tell you that in 2021, if God allows it, I will graduate with a high school diploma in computing. Then I would like to go to technical college. We are about to finish this school year and then I have to move to another school to finish my studies, God willing. In your letter, you asked for prayers for you and the other teachers. Of course I will be praying so that God gives you and your fellow teachers wisdom so that your students can learn everything you teach them joyfully. I thank you for the beautiful Bible verse. Of course, God is our help and our strength. He is the one who helps us come out of difficulties. I send kisses and hugs!

Sincerely,

Celeste

We go onto a letter from Mirajul. This is my very first letter from him and it's full of details. He seems like such a treasure. I am so eager to get to know him more and more.

Mirajul is 13 years old and is from Bangladesh. His letter is dated September 5th, 2018.

________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

At first, take my cordial greetings. I hope you are fine. Me and my family are fine. Thank you for your letter. I like to play in my leisure time. I especially like playing football. I have got a new baby sister. She is 7 months old. She is learning to sit by herself. I hold my sister on my lap. I take care of her. When she cries, I take her in my lap. I attend the project regularly. I like the project. I like to eat tomato. We grow tomato. Potato is one of my family crops that is cultivated most in our country. We swim in the pond, but we do not swim too often. I got a mosquito net, umbrella, and bed sheet from the project last month. I am very happy to get these. What will you do when you grow up? Please pray for me.

Yours,
Mirajul

________________________________________________________________________________

I seem to have some not-so-chatty kiddos recently. Must be something in the air. ;)

This short letter is from Vitor. It's short, but sweet, and has a few good details. But honestly, I have no idea what he's talking about in the beginning?

Vitor is 13 years old, from Brazil, and he wrote this letter on October 14th, 2018.

_______________________________________________________________________________

Hi Kayla!

I think this happens in many homes! It's bad to treat somebody with disdain. What do you do? I want to be a firefighter. How are you? I have the flu. Please pray for my uncle Valterli. He has cancer. Thank you for your letter. I share Proverbs 14:27, "The fear of the Lord is a fountain for life, turning a person from the snares of death."

Vitor

________________________________________________________________________________

We end this post with a letter from my most un-chatty boy. At least he's consistent. ;)

Ernest is 13 years old, from Ghana, and his letter is dated October 31st, 2018.

_______________________________________________________________________________

Ernest says thank you for the letters, the stories, and the pictures you sent. He's very happy to receive them. The stories are good. He says they are having inter-school games. Please pray for God's mercy and protection for him. He says may God grant your heart's desires and let all your wishes come to pass. Here is Psalm 25:15, "I look to the Lord for help at all times and he rescues me from danger."

Five Letter Friday: Volume 10

Somehow, it's Friday.

I've spent every single free hour this week in my classroom, trying to get everything done for the preschool year to start.

I will never get everything done.

Open house is next Thursday.

Everything with not be done.

I will have to accept that.

But, the joy of letters never stops.

Here are our five letters for today:

We start with a letter from Joel, who seems to be doing wonderfully! I am hoping for great things in his future!

Joel is 17 years old, lives in Mexico, and his letter is dated June 9th.

________________________________________________________________________________

Hello Dear Kayla,

I want to thank you for writing to me and telling me nice stories that I enjoyed. In this letter, I want to tell you how I have been doing in school. These are my last days at school and very soon I'm going to take my admissions exam for university. I'm very happy because I have finished another goal in my life and with the help of God, I am ready to start a new challenge in my life. It will be one of the most difficult because I will have to leave my house and learn lots of new things. God willing, I hope to pass my exam and continue studying. Thank you for the present you sent me. With it, I was able to buy a pair of pants and two shirts. Please pray for my studies and my family, so we are exemplary Christians and for my sister and me to do well in school and that we are exemplary children for other people. I would like to ask you, what is summer like where you live? What do you do in your summer vacations? Where do you go to? Do you like sports? I want to thank you for being my sponsor and telling me great stories.

Onto a letter from another young adult, a letter from Lina. She had been studying nursing, but had to quit due to lack of funds. It sounds like things are difficult for her right now. I hope that God can show her what next steps to take in life.

Lina is 19 years old, she is from Colombia, and she wrote this letter on July 4th, 2018.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

I greet you in our Lord Jesus's name. How are you? I want to tell you that there are still many problems between me and my grandmother. Things with my grandmother have not improved. Also, I cannot continue studying nursing and I can't get certification. Someday I would like to visit South Korea and learn about their culture and self-discipline. I would like to participate in contemporary dance. I would like to be like Job because he was a man of faith. I would like to meet and talk with you. I want to thank you for your support. I'd like to become a pediatrician. My dream is to help my family because we have hard times. I would be nice to improve our quality of life. What did you want to become when you were a child? I thank you again for your support and prayers. I ask you again to please pray for difficult situations that we have in our house. I will pray for you. Finally, I say goodbye and I wish you blessings. I give you the Bible verse Psalm 103:1-22. I send you a hug.

Lina

Today's final letter is from my boy Dagim. I've been saying it a lot lately, but I am so glad I decided to send a popular children's story to my kids each month. I have been getting so many good responses. Storytelling really seems to be something that is universal. Everyone appreciates a good story. :)

Dagim is 10 years old, lives in Ethiopia, and his letter is dated July 25th, 2018.

Dear Kayla,

My dear family, how are you doing? I'm doing very well with my family. I'm so glad and thankful for your letter. I love the story of The Ugly Duckling. I got a great lesson from it. I learned that I shouldn't judge my friends by their current status because I don't know what their future will be. Thank you very much for sharing such a nice story with me. Please pray that I can have a nice and successful future. I would be so happy if you would share more stories with me. Thank you very much for your prayers and financial support. I love you very much. Until the next letter, be well. Goodbye.

Yours,
Dagim

July 2018 Photo Updates

I've decided that I'm going to start posting my photo updates monthly. If I don't happen to get any updated photos in a specific month, you won't see a post like this, but with the number of kids that I have, I think that probably won't happen too often.

In July, I received three photo updates:

Mulwa from Kenya

Naji from Bangladesh

Tamire from Ethiopia

Three Letter Tuesday: Volume 7

I just thought about it today, if I want to keep naming these posts with volume numbers. How high will I go? Will it make sense when I get to volume 300? Though, I suppose that'll be literal years from now. By then, I may have come up with a new system. Something to think about, I guess.

Anyway, let's move onto today's letters. All three are template letters from three little girls.

I start with a letter from Airin, who is sharing some details with me about her project learning on a template letter. She always leaves the artwork/drawing section on her letters empty, so I asked her if she can draw me a picture in one of my response letters. This letter makes me laugh because she says that she will draw me a picture in her next letter, but apparently couldn't be bothered to draw a picture for this current letter. ;)

Airin is 8 years old, lives in Indonesia, and her letter is dated June 18th, 2018.

Dear My Sponsor Kayla,

Thank you for your letter. I'm glad I can write to you again. I will answer your questions. 1. We (the Compassion children) don't all come to the project at the same time. We are divided into groups according to our age and come on different days. 2. Yes, I can draw you a picture. I will send my drawing along with the next letter. Thank you for the questions. I hope you are doing well. My family and I are in good health here. I must go now. Lord Jesus bless you.

Love,
Airin

I think I have been blessed with the opportunity to write to some of the best girls in the world. I don't take that privilege lightly. I love them each so much.

This first letter is from Jhoyra. She is one of several of my kids who have mentioned the children's stories I've been sharing in my letters. I am so happy these stories are going over so well! She even shared her own story (one that is probably very familiar with all of us.)

He is happy because he and Chloe have almost the same school schedule, except he gets to school at 8:00 and it ends at 12:50. He asks you to keep praying for him.
