Five Letter Friday: Volume 21

It was a crazy, but amazingly fun week with my preschoolers. I am so blessed to be a preschool teacher. I can truly say I love every minute of my job.

Then I get to come home and receive even more blessings from kids all over the world.

Even though some days can be difficult, I never have to look far to see how much God loves me. He puts so many great children in my life.

So, now that I'm sufficiently sappy, let's share five letters.

Even though I just shared a letter from him on Tuesday, I received another letter soon after from Hillary. This time, it is written on the How I Have Fun template.

Hillary is 8 years old, lives in Kenya, and he wrote this letter on September 6th, 2018.

I greet you with the peace of the Lord! I give you thanks for the stories. They are interesting. I enjoyed the pictures that you sent me. I'm happy that you're taking care of children. Let me tell you that I am doing well, thank God. At the moment, I am studying graphic design at the institute. I am doing well there. In the Compassion project, all of us who are in GAP do activities, for instance, evangelism. I also learned how to make cunape (A traditional form of cheesy bread in Bolivia). My family enjoys good health, thank God. I hope your family is the same. In the mornings, from Monday to Friday, I go to my school classes. In the afternoon, I work with my dad. We work as car mechanics. I am doing my best to learn, although I can get by with the little that I already know, but I want to learn more. Here in my country, Christmas is coming near. I am very happy because it is my favorite holiday and the day Jesus was born. I share a lot with my family. I want to share about a movie I watched called The 48 Wishes of Christmas. It is about a girl who hated Christmas, who lived with her brother and parents. Her dad died and she started hating Christmas. Her mom told her to decorate with her brother, but she didn't want to do it. She ended up loving Christmas at the end, but I won't tell you the whole movie because it is very long.

Three Letter Tuesday: Volume 20

After my failure on Friday, it's time to get back on track.

Halloween craziness is over and my preschoolers and I have started a fun Fairy Tale unit for November. It's been a ton of fun, so far!

But as today is Tuesday, it is time to share three letters!

Our first letter today comes from sweet Hillary. He wrote his letter to me on the My Medical Check-Up template.

This particular letter makes me laugh. Awhile ago, I wrote to my kids about a family event that I had. To this event, my mom and my sister just happened to wear the same sweater, without planning it. I told my kids about it and sent a photo of the two of them together, with their matching sweaters. Hillary doesn't seem all that impressed. ;)

Hillary is 8 years old, lives in Kenya, and he wrote this letter on August 21st, 2018.

Form Letters for Miles!

There is just something so wonderful about these long posts of letters. They may not be exciting to read to the average Joe, but for me, going back over the years and reading the letters from my children is just such a blessing. I thank God for each and every child I get to write to.

This post will be chock full of form letters from the youngest in my brood.

We'll start with a letter from one of my little guys, Dedilhomme. He's writing this letter on the My Hopes for the Future letter template.

Dedilhomme is 6 years old, lives in Haiti, and his letter is dated April 9th, 2018.

Nicol and her family thank you for looking out for her and for sharing your anecdotes. This is Nicol's teacher writing to you on her behalf because she can't do it yet. She is learning about vowels and numbers. Regarding your question, she says she's in good health. She had a happy Christmas with her family. During that time, the project had a party where they gave presents to the children. She says she got a doll that is as big as her. She also spent time with her family, sharing presents. Also, she accepted Jesus in her heart because he died on the cross to save us all. Nicol tells you Jonah's story in the following way: Jonah got in the boat and God made the waters move fast. From the Field Friday: KE-500

I can't believe it's already the last week of April! Time sure does fly. I just have a couple more week of preschool and then it's summer vacay!

To celebrate the end of the month, let's read another letter from Kenya. This time, it's from KE-500, which is the project that my boy Hillary attends.

Dear Kayla, 

My name is Eric Yugi and I am pastor of the Changamwe Child Development Center, which is attend by your sponsored child. May the almighty God bless you abundantly for sponsoring Hillary. 

Currently 212 children are registered at the center and we are enjoying sponsorship. We have nine children to be supported in university taking various degrees. 110 children are taking their high school studies and 65 are in primary and nursery education. 37 of them are doing Diploma, certificates and grade examinations. There is great need of more support for students in post-secondary education as their financial demand of college fees and supplies are high. Children are able to achieve their scholastic goals because of support from sponsors, who help them buy textbooks, uniforms, and other necessities. 

This year in the month of March, we celebrated the silver jubilee of the center. During the celebrations we launched an education fund through church donations to subsidize university fees of children admitted in various professions. We thank God for support we received from Compassion International representative especially our partnership facilitator who mobilized her colleagues in joining together to celebrate the achievements and support the university children. We had one student from our center graduating from the Leadership Development Program with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Glory to God. The child's life has tremendously changed for the better. He is happy and blessed thanks to Compassion. 

We thank our government and local leaders who have always supported us. Our member of parliament and county representatives gave us moral support and donated finances during the launch of the center. The church has increased spiritually and numerically through this program. April this year 96 children confessed and accepted Christ as their personal Savior. The church is now expanding the sanctuary to seat 10,000 members. It is through your support that we have been able to minister to the children, caregivers and leading to the church expansion. 

Whenever children receive a letter they are always excited. The children enjoy letter writing sessions because this gives them time to interact with their beloved sponsor. It helps the children in building self-esteem and also in learning how to read and write English, since it is the language that they usually use. Letters also expose the child to what happens around the world as sponsors share personal information as well as the information about where you live. Receiving a letter is like receiving love from their sponsor, and children know that someone values them. For some children, this is the first time they know they are loved and valued, and it makes a big impact in their lives. I hope you will remember and write to Hillary often. 

In conclusion, thank you for the holistic child development program you are supporting in this church. It has been a blessing to the families supported to the church to the neighboring communities and the nation at large. God has used you as an ambassador of positive change and may He bless you abundantly.

Attempt Catch Up #2

Well, it's been nearly two weeks since I last did a major post like this. That time, it was just with template letters. I originally intended for this post to be just non-template letters. However, I seem to have many more little kids in my family these days, and just don't have enough non-template letters to share. So this post will be a mixture of everything.

Onto a letter from little Shakilla. I am going to say this is the first letter I've received from her, because I'm pretty sure it is. Now I'll share a letter from Hillary, who is writing to me about his Holiday/School Break. I think the template letters from this country are my favorite. They are always long and leave the questions very open ended, for the kids to write what they want. The multiple choice templates are good enough, but they don't give the kids much chance to think of their own answers.

So Many Letters!

In the month of October alone, I have received 30 letters. I have just been amazed at how many emails I've been receiving for letters. It's been such a blessing! Now, I really have to take some serious time to respond to them all!

I'm not sure how many letters I will be sharing in this post. It's officially 10:30 p.m, as I start this post. I'm basically going to type letters until I get tired and want to go to bed. :)

We'll start the adventure out with a letter from Joel, who lives in Mexico. This young man has such big plans for his future and I just hope I can encourage him to pursue his goals. He seems pretty committed to them. Joel is 17 years old. His letter is dated August 26th, 2017.

I am writing you this letter. Everything is going well with my family at this moment. My sister just came back home after being in University. We celebrate Mexico's Independence Day on September 16th. It was in 1810. We also celebrated some other events apart from our Independence, like our annexation of our State of Chiapas to Mexico. Now a letter from Muuo. He is telling me all about his school in this letter. I think out of all of the countries I write to, Kenya has some of the best templates! I like how many questions they have and how most of the questions are open ended. Many other templates have 2-4 choices for a child to choose, not leaving much wiggle room for young kids, as they think they have to choose one of the options. I'm not really complaining, just noting.

Next up, a letter from Rujikorn. It has been quite awhile since I last heard from her, which is odd for her. My guess is she missed a letter writing day at her project and had to wait for the next one. Her letter is great, though, as always!

Dear Kayla, 

Hello! My family and I are fine and we hope that you and your family are also. I'm so glad and excited to write you. What season is it there now? It is now in the rainy season here. It rains here every day. It is raining a bit when I go to school in the morning. The weather is nice. The project ran Mother's Day activities for all the kids on the 12th. We all paid respect to our mothers and it was a great moment. I was so happy when hugging and cuddling my mother. Have you paid respect to your mother yet? 

The rice in a field is a beautiful green color. It brings a good atmosphere. The rice that my mother grows is so beautiful. I wish you could see it. I go to school Monday-Friday and attend the project Saturday and Sunday. My friend and I are the leaders of the 153 group. I'm so glad about it. We lead the worship on Sunday and clean the church. I wish you would visit me and see the atmosphere here. You are welcome always. I believe that God will provide us with a chance to meet each other.
