Five Letter Friday: Volume 25

It's time to get back on track with posting my letters. I said I would start up again in 2019 and here I am, keeping my promise. :)

We start the first letter post of the new year with a letter from Nico. He wrote his letter on the template titled My Hobbies & Pets.

Five Letter Friday (On a Saturday): Volume 16

Well, it seems like posting a day late is a theme for this week. It's been a pretty high-anxiety and difficult week for me, so I'm not surprised things like blogging have fallen by the wayside. I will get back on track next week.

But since the week isn't over yet, I can still post five letters for you all to read.

We'll start with a letter from Rebecca, who is being her typical chatty self. I love that, of course!

Rebecca is 10 years old, lives in the Philippines, and her letter is dated August 18th, 2018.

Dear Ate Kayla, 

Good day! How are you and your family? We are fine here. I joined the A1 Child Competition and I won. We are done with our English test and also the test in Values Education and I got perfect scores. I don't know about the other results. I sleep on the wooden floor and I place my foam mat on top. The distance between my house and the learning center is 3 km. Our water supply comes from the water district. What's your weather there? Until now, my father has not found a job because of his rheumatism. That's what it's hard for him to find work. Every October, I attend Girl Scout camping. What people here usually do during vacation is go to the beach to swim, but this time we are having a family reunion. Please pray for me so that I can submit all of my projects into school, like a world map. Thank you so much and God bless you.

Our first letter comes from my little Thai guy Jaw-bu-keh. This letter is written on the My Typical Week template.

My name is Norpue. I am a volunteer and I am writing on behalf of Jaw-bu-keh because he can't write by himself. He says thank you for your letter and another chance to talk to you. He is a cheerful boy. He said this is a special month because it includes Children's Day and Father's Day. On June 10th, there was a Children's Day activity. He and his friends sang songs and had a competition for memorizing Bible verses. He said it was fun and had the opportunity to eat a delicious meal. On June 17th, the church held a Father's Day activity. He sang a song to his father and everyone had a good time. He asks if you have Father's Day activities there. A Big Mix of Letters!

I've been missing from my blog for over a week. I basically lost a week of my life. School ended and I hit summer vacation hard. ;)

But, let's get back to business. Not sure how many letters will be in this post, but I think I'll stick with my usual attitude; when I get tired of typing, I'll stop. :)

Up first is a My Hobbies & Pets template from Zenebu. Her hobbies sound more like chores to me. I wonder if there was a mix-up in translation when the letter was being written.

Zenebu is 7 years old and lives in Ethiopia. Her letter is dated February 26th, 2018.

Good day! How are you and your family? We are doing good here. We recently had our moving up ceremony at school. I am a "With Honor" student and I received awards for Outstanding Performance in Science, Outstanding Performance in English, and the GSP Award. Thank you for sending me a letter. The snow is so nice. I hope I can travel there and see snow someday. Please pray for my father, that he can find a job. Yes, I have accepted Jesus at my personal savior. I am healed from my cough and I am fine now. A doctor prescribed me some medicine and the learning center here bought the medicine. From the Field Friday: PH-630

Let's start off March with a trip the Philippines!

Apparently the city where project PH-630 is located is a newer city with a fast growing population. It sounds like things change quickly around there. I'm so glad that Compassion put a project here to instill some consistency and sense of community to the people there.

Dear Kayla, 

Greetings in the name of the Lord! I am Jorge Japsay Subiera, the pastor of Assembly of God Church, San Francisco, Philippines. We host the Assembly of God Assistance for Kids Child Development Center attended by Rebecca. 

I would like to express my thanks and gratitude for the sponsorship, support, and never failing guidance and compassion you have shared with Rebecca. 

San Francisco is a fast growing community with a huge population. People have varied ways of earning a living and have a common culture of being hardworking. There is a love for entrepreneurial skills and a sense of ownership and achievement. 

Due to the newness of the municipality, most of the inhabitants are from other places of different cultures, so the church finds it challenging to instill Christian values to the members. However, for now, we have not yet met any opposing or negative sentiments. Instead, all interactions lead to a deepened faith and stronger ties among new members. 

The vision of our church is to see our registered children and their families become God-fearing servants, acting as agents of change within the community and beyond. We hope that the values we are imparting to them will guide them. 

The Center implements classes for the children, to teach them the Bible and develop the physical, socio-emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of their lives. We also provide enrichment activities and intervene when there is a gap in a child's needs. Our church also conducts parent meetings and home visits to help the parents better bring up their children and there is now an increase of sponsored children's families who attend the church. 

Letter writing allows the children to develop a closer relationship with their sponsors. One of our registered children told us she wrote a letter to her sponsor just to express the joy she felt. She appreciated the fact that someone from a faraway place had taken the effort to write and send her a gift. Letter writing enables the children to share their feelings and emotions, which they are not always able to express to their parents. However, not all children receive letters from their sponsors and they feel sad. Please write to Rebecca as much as you can. 

Please pray for the strength of the Center workers, for the wisdom of the church leaders and for the teachable spirits of the sponsored children and parents.

Last Blogged Letters of February

Three more letters to share with you for the month. Then I plan to spend the last couple of days of February responding to all of these letters. Then it's onto March. Bring it on, March!

First up, a letter from Mulwa. I long for the day that he writes on his own. I would say he's old enough to, but he must not be ready yet. I can't wait until the day he starts sharing his own details instead of the seemingly rehearsed and generic letters I get now. Gotta love that artwork, though. :)

Mulwa salutes in Jesus' name. He says he is going on well with his family members. He says he is doing well at school. Mulwa hopes that you are fine. He informs you that he is working very hard at school so as to achieve his dream. He also says that he goes to the project every Saturday and participates in well in different activities. Onto a letter from Rebecca. I love that I hear from her so often. She's such a lovely, intelligent girl and seems to always been involved in some kind of competition of some sort. I hope she genuinely enjoys competing all the time and that she's not being forced to do so. I know that in areas of the Philippines, achievement is very important and children are only accepted as good if they win. I'm not saying at all that this is the case for Rebecca, but I do want her to know that she is wonderful regardless of all these contests and results.

Good day! How are you and your family? We are doing well here. Thank you for your Christmas greetings. My team got 2nd place in the folk dance and choral competition. We performed by group in the contest. Last September 4th, during my birthday, we prepared some food and celebrated with my relatives. Thank you for praying for my allergy It's okay now, though. My thumbnail removed, but another one has grown. I used ointment and an antibiotic. I also prayed to God. I am continuing my studies. We recently had our third periodical exam and I passed it. Thank you for always writing letters to me so our communication continues. My memory verse is Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go. Even when he is old, he will not depart from it."

Four Letters For Your Thursday

As I typed the title, I was actually a bit surprised about the day. It feels like Monday was soooooo long ago. It hasn't been a bad week, but it has definitely been a long week. I wonder why that is?

But, before I start my Thursday, I have letters to share with you today.

Let's start with a Hobbies and Pets template letter from Hillary. He writes these letters completely on his own and his handwriting is just so big and loopy. So adorable!

Hillary is 7 years old and lives in Kenya. His letter is dated January 6th, 2018.

Now a letter from Dedilhomme, who is writing to me on the My School Break template form. It sounds like my little guy has a wonderful appetite. ;)

If you would like, please pray for him to have a good end of the year. He says an eclipse occurred in Haiti on August 21st. It was his first time to see an eclipse. He says that God created all the stars.

Good day! How are you and your family? I am happy upon receiving your letters. Please send my kisses to Gage and Chloe. Is Gage's foot healed? Yes, I can pray for Gage's foot. Yes, I have a picture of me winning the fancy dress competition. I joined a storytelling and sudoku contests at school and I got 6th place. I joined a science bowl contest and I got 2nd place. We celebrated Children's Month here in our center and we had a guest speaker. After, we played parlor games. My team was Anne, Rhea, Mae, and Crislyn. 

Our school classes start at 8:00 a.m and end at 4:30 p.m. Can you pray for my cough? I am suffering now. The story I read in my storytelling contest is found in 1 Kings 3:16-28. I am sending you a picture of our house.
