Short and Simple Letter from Karanja

How can there be so much joy in seeing a cream colored envelope in the mail? Seriously that blue "A Message from Your Sponsored Child" makes my whole day wonderful. It's the truth.

Today, inside that envelope was a letter from Francis Karanja. I can't quite figure out what name he goes by. Sometimes he refers to himself as Francis and other times, as Karanja. I'm going to ask him which name he prefers in my response letter, so we can clear it up a little bit.

Here is the letter:

Dear Kayla,

How are you? I hope you are fine. First receive much greetings from your sponsored child Francis. I am very happy to receive your letter and I read it when I read it, it makes my day enjoyable.

In your letter I saw a question asking why do we stay at school for so long. (He told me that he stays from 6:30 a.m to 5:00 p.m). We star for so long because it is enjoyable.

Thank you for sending the pictures of your pets. They look so beautiful. In fact, your cat looks like my sister's cat. You had asked how many pets I have. I have two dogs.

God bless you. Goodbye.

  1. Isn't it amazing how much joy that little letter can bring?? I love your Karanja's letter!! It's so sweet that he thinks your pets are beautiful! And I don't know about Kenya, but in Uganda, my former sponsored child said it's not unusual to go by the first name or the last or both. She said that they're not like us where we just go by our "first" name. Maybe it's the same for him?

  2. Karanja isn't his "last name", but it's the name listed in the middle. There is another name listed after Francis Karanja that is his official last name. I'm guessing that he interchanges his first name and his middle name. But, I am eager to hear what he says for me to call him.
