Today, I got two letters from Abu in Sierra Leone and two letters from Florenc in Albania. I'm going to separate the letters into two posts, so each boy can have his own space. We wouldn't want them to get jealous, would we? :)
Here are the letters:
Way back, I got a letter of Abu with a picture of how he spent the gift money that I sent him. Some of the things in the picture were hard to see and I had questions about some of the other things. In this first letter, Abu is answering some of my questions.
I made a copy of the photo, decorated it a little bit, and sent it back to Abu and his grandma. They mention the picture too.

Dear Kayla ,Abu and grandmother received the photos and letter you sent for them. They were very surprised to see Abu's photo again in different colors. They really like that you are rapidly changing them in better ways.
The goat in the photo you saw is a female one, but it has no name. It is funny, not so?
In the red bag in the photo were some wearings for Abu since Christmas was drawing nearer, he asked for new clothes, so some were bought for him and he was pleased to get them.
Once again, Abu and grandmother say many thanks to you and your family and pray that God continues to protect and provide for you all.

This second letter is referencing a letter that I sent out at the end of the summer. I went to a baseball game and sent a letter telling about baseball and how the game is played. I sent some pictures of the players throwing, catching, and batting.

Abu and grandmother received the letter and the photos of the baseball players, for which they say thank you.
Indeed, it is wonderful to see the player in action, they commented. They say they have never seen baseball nor the players with their eyes, but they asked where such a game could be seen. The answer was in the capital city - Freetown. Abu loves to play football, but has never heard of baseball and is happy to look at the photos always.
In Abu's community, people celebrate only one festival - Harvest, every year, apart from the other Muslim and Christian celebrations. During the Harvest Festival, they dance eat a lot and give thanks to God for their harvest and wait for the other year's harvest.

ReplyDeleteAlso, my parents get the WV envelopes from their kids when they write... my my WV girl writes I get a plain envelope that doesn't say WV on it anywhere haha, it's odd. There's no logo on the paper or the envelope. Actually they look like junk mail and the first few times I got them I ignored them to open later (So glad I didn't just toss them) They are seriously really quite blank. Now I know better and look for the plain envelopes that do have a purple stamp from the Rwandan Post office that just says R.R.Of course I don't seem to get cream coloured ones from Compassion either haha... I've had maybe 3 of those total... Compassion Canada uses white ones with big blue writing on them that says "A message from your sponsored child" but even my USA kids for some reason have used white envelopes 50% of the time...
I was totally going to name the goat! Or, at least put a name suggestion in my reply letter. I think it would be fun to name the goat Hazel. I'm not sure why, I just think it's a pretty game.
DeleteSince WV letters come straight from the country, all of the envelopes look different. Envelopes from Sierra Leone are white with an orange WV logo in the corner. They also come with bird stamps too. Letters from Albania are all white with a WV logo and a blue stamp that says, "Taxqe Parque" or something like that on it. I think it means "no charge" or something close to that.
I'm glad you didn't throw out the letters you got!
I love his sense of humor!!! I think you should give a name suggestion for the goat since it's nameless. I also love how he appreciated how you decorated the photo!! So cute!!
ReplyDeleteI did send a suggestion for the name! I wrote him back and I suggested the name Hazel, to match the color of the goats eyes. We'll see what he says.
