Letters to My Kids: March 2014

This month was a very busy one for me, so I only got one letter out to all my kids. However, I received many letters from my kids, so a lot of them got a response letter from me as well.

This month, I wrote about Easter, even though the letter probably won't reach most of them before Easter actually happens. But, better late than never, right?

World Vision sends Easter cards each year for us to send to our sponsored children. I literally copied the text word for word for this letter to my Compassion kids. I hope that's not some copyright issue, because I just really wanted to share the story of Easter with children. The first paragraph and the final sentence are my words, everything else belongs to World Vision. Anyway, here's what the card/letter said.

I hope you are doing well in this happy season. As you know, Easter is coming soon. This year, Easter occurs on April 20th. I want to retell the story of Easter to you, using scriptures from the bible. When I share a bible verse, I will also tell you which one it was, so you can look for it in the bible and share it with your family.

Do you know the story of Easter? Jesus, son of God, died on the cross. His body was put into a tomb and sealed with a large stone. On the third day, two of his friends came to the tomb. " angel of the Lord came down from heaven and rolled aside the stone." (Matthew 28:2) "Don't be frightened," he said, "I know you are looking for Jesus...but he isn't here! For he has come back to life again, just as he said he would." (Matthew 28:5-6) "The women ran from the tomb, badly frightened, but also filled with joy...and as they were running, suddenly Jesus was there in front of them! "Good morning!," he said to them, "and they fell to the ground before him, holding his feet and worshiping him." (Matthew 28:8-9) "That evening the disciples were meeting when suddenly Jesus was standing there among them...and how wonderful was their joy when they saw their Lord." (John 20:19-20) Jesus said, "...I am always with you, even to the end of the world." (Matthew 28:20)

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16)

The time around Easter is one of my favorite times of the year. The weeks before Easter, my church has special programs and we worship while we wait for Jesus to return. On the Friday before Easter, we remember the sad day that Jesus was killed on the cross. But, on Sunday, we celebrate and rejoice that Jesus has come back from the dead. Jesus beat death and sin! We also praise God because we know that Jesus will come again someday to rescue us all. That is such good news!

What do you think it will be like when Jesus returns to Earth?

  1. I really love this letter...I might use it this week to write to out kids. I think it's so neat that World Vision really encourages sponsors to write at holidays and that they even supply you with cards!

    1. WV supplies cards several times a times a year. We get cards to send for Easter, Christmas, the New Year (we get a small calendar to send), the beginning of the school year, and birthdays. So, if sponsors fill out these cards whenever World Vision sends them, the children will get, at least, five things from their sponsor each year.
