Five Letter Friday: Volume 2

Another Friday, another five letters. Without further ado...

We start with a letter from Brian. This is an extra long letter from him, compared to his usual letters. In response to all of the stories I've been telling my kids, Brian responded with a story of his own.

Brian is 16 years old, from Kenya, and he wrote this letter on May 10th, 2018.

________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

Receive warm greetings in genius name, hoping that you are fine together with your family. My family and I are doing well and we give thanks to almighty God. I am happy to write a letter again. I received the letters that you wrote for me and I am happy to know new stories. I have one story I want to share with you. It is about three sons and their father.

"There once were three boys and their father. Their father taught them goals and morals. So one day the father called them and gave each an egg. The father them each to hide it where nobody could see them. One of the boys hide an egg in a hole. Another hid it under the bed. The last hid the egg in a bush. When they finished, they went and told their father they had hidden the eggs. The father started asking, "who saw you when you were hiding them?" The boys said "no one was." The father said there was only one person who was looking at them. That person was God. From the day, the boys knew that God is everywhere and they were happy.

Before I wind up I have a memory verse which gives me hope in my life and I want to share with you. It is Jeremiah 29:11. It says, "For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a better future."

Thank you for your support and may God bless you.

Goodbye,
Brian

Hello,

How are you, dear sponsor? This is Samuel's brother writing. I want to tell you that my brother is big and healthy. He really likes going to school because he has many friends. Now I share a letter from Gary. I have been hearing in the news and getting notifications from Compassion that things are very hostile in Nicaragua right now, with many protests leading to injuries and deaths. It sounds very scary and my kids are starting to mention things like this in their letters. Breaks my heart. No child (or even older teen) should have to worry about things like that.

Gary is 17 years old. His letter is dated April 27th, 2018.

Dear and Esteemed Sponsor Kayla,

I hope you are in good health. Thanks for your sponsorship. I want to tell you that I am sick. I have the flu and I am coughing. I am already taking medicines. My family is fine, thank God. We are worried because there have been problems in my country. There have been many protests against the government. The social security policy has been reformed by the president. There are dead and injured people. There has been pillage. There have been protest marches searching for peace. We trust God to take control of the situation. I am still attending the project. There have been many activities. I want to tell you that I went to a lagoon and to a park. I have been playing soccer with my neighbors. I am so happy to know that you are working with children. I promise to pray for you and your students. You have a great job! Are the kids okay? I'm glad to know that you are a teacher. I want to tell you that it rained and my house was flooded, but we are okay now. What school class do you enjoy the most with your students? Are you still taking care of Gage and Chloe? I always pray for God to bless you. I ask you to pray for me and my family. I want you to pray for my country. We want peace. I say goodbye with so much love. God bless you!

Gary

I am so grateful for this next letter, from Celeste. It had been quite a long time since I heard from her. Long enough to have to put in an inquiry. This letter arrived just 5 days after I asked for the inquiry. Not sure what the hold up on her letters were, but I'm glad they answered so fast and had Celeste write a letter!

Celeste is 16 years old, from Honduras, and wrote this letter on June 1st, 2018.

Hello Dear and Beautiful Sponsor Kayla,

Thanks to God, my family and I are very well. I hope in God that you also find yourself very well in health. The story of Little Red Riding Hood is very cool and beautiful. I have already heard that story and have seen the movie Little Red Riding Hood. I have also heard about the Gruff goats. Even though I've heard them before they were still interesting. Thank you very much for these stories and I hope you continue to write me many more. I will be waiting for your story with much desire and I am eager to read them. I also thank you for the very nice pages to color. I want to tell you that I have doing very well in school and I am working hard since this is my last year. I plan to go on to study for a master's degree so that I can help others. I know it is a lot of work but I will try to do it and reach my goals, with the help of God. I ask for your prayers so that I can achieve it. Your prayers will be of great help. I say goodbye to you with lots of love, kisses, and hugs. I'll be waiting for your next letter.

Celeste

Three Letter Tuesday: Volume 1

Today's three letters all come from the same country. In honor of their most recent World Cup match win, today's letters come from Colombia! From youngest to oldest...

Let's start with Jonatan's letter. He is 10 years old and wrote this letter on May 4th, 2018.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

I want to greet you in the love of God. I want to tell you that thanks to God I have been very well in my school grades. I had a good grade point average and my sister was happy about that. I also want to tell you that in this month of May, we celebrate Mother's Day in Colombia. We make small presents to recognize their love for us. I want to make a small gift for my mother because I want to show her how much I love her and how thankful I am to her for being the best mother. I am also going to give her a present for her birthday on May 15th. I thank God very much for being part of your family and for your beautiful letters. I would like to know what month you celebrate Mother's Day where you live. I hope you are happy to read my letter the same way I am happy to write it. I send you a huge hug. I hope I can see you soon. I love you very much. This is a promise to you: Proverbs 31:29.

Jonatan

________________________________________________________________________________

Up next is a letter from Daniel, who is 12 years old. His letter is dated May 12th, 2018. Sometimes I am confused by the questions my kids ask me. Do you think they are told what questions to ask? After so many years, you think Daniel would already know the answers to the questions he's asking in this letter.

________________________________________________________________________________

Hello Dear Sponsor,

I am glad to be able to write to you again and tell you more about me and my family.

I want to thank you for the sponsorship you give me because with this opportunity, I am able to attend the project. First, I want to tell you that my dad is a tutor at the CDC. He works with the oldest students, called "Excellent Generation." My mom works doing shifts in a bakery. She also does freelance baking. Tomorrow it will be my brother's birthday. My other siblings are studying and are doing well. How old are you? What's your house like? How many kids do you have? What are their names? What's your favorite food? My favorite food is Badeja Paisa (red beans cooked with pork, white rice, ground beef, chicharron, egg, and plantain). In my city we are in our rainy season. Sometimes it is hot. The river near us overflowed and the fishes came out of it. My name means "Judge and Justice". I am the 3rd child among 4 siblings. I am 150 cm tall. I have dark brown hair and the color of my eyes is dark brown. The best thing I do is drawing. Something I like doing is playing soccer. I ask you to pray for me and my family. I give you this Bible verse: Psalms 4:3. God bless you.

Juan Daniel

________________________________________________________________________________

This last letter is from Ronaldo. It seems his project had the same writing instructions as Daniel's did. I get to hear about some of the physical attributes of Ronaldo, as well as some of his interests, name meaning, etc.

Ronaldo is 21 years old and I will not be able to write to him much longer. Each letter is a blessing. He wrote this letter on May 10th, 2018.

________________________________________________________________________________

Appreciated Kayla,

How are you? May God bless you. It is very interesting for me to learn about the redwood trees and also to see the drawing you sent. I want to tell you that my name means "The Adviser" and "Glorious Governor". I am surprised! I am the 1st born of my family. Maybe my parents didn't know (I really wish I knew what this meant.) I am 170 cm tall. My hair and eyes are dark brown. One of the things I do well is play soccer. I also like practicing flips. What do you call this in your country? Kayla, I want to ask you to keep me in your prayers. I am not only a sponsored child, I am also a health tutor at the project. Being a tutor has been a great experience, and I owe part of it to you. I give thanks to God because he has helped me not to fail him, nor you, nor my family. Even though you are not close to me, you have marked my life and I will always remember you as a great blessing. I love you very much, Kayla. I say goodbye, giving you a Bible verse from Peter 4:8, "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins."

Ronaldo

Five Letter Friday Volume 1

At the super high rate that I've been receiving letters (I received 6 letters TODAY) and the super low rate of me actually finding the time/effort to actually get those letters posted, I'm going to make myself a set schedule. Because I like alliteration, I will be titling these posts Five Letter Fridays and Three Letter Tuesdays.

8 letters posted a week. I know that sounds like a lot, but I seriously have 45 letters backed up that I haven't posted on my blog and even more that I haven't sat down to respond to (that's my project for this week...and probably several more weekends...).

I love writing to my kids and I'm typically so on top of these things, but with my new full time job this summer and my extra events (small group, trivia, piano lessons, seeing my family) my weekdays are pretty much booked.

So, without further ado, let's begin our first Five Letter Friday!

The first letter in this series comes from Ernest, who is 12 years old, and lives in Ghana. His letter is dated March 7th, 2018.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

Ernest says he thanks God for bringing you into his life. He says he has learnt about Jonah at the project. He says he helps his parents with household chores. He asks you to pray for him to be brilliant in his studies. He says may God shower blessings on your life. He shares John 14:14, "If you ask anything in my name, I will do it."

________________________________________________________________________________

Our next letter comes from my girl Ayling. I will be joining her project in prayer for the ability to build classrooms!

Ayling is 11 years old and lives in Nicaragua. Her letter is dated March 22nd, 2018.

________________________________________________________________________________

Hello Dear Sponsor Kayla,

I hope that you are healthy with your family. I thank you for continually supporting me. God bless you. I want to tell you that I am close to finishing private school and will be in secondary school soon. I just finished Easter week vacation. I want to know what your favorite color is. Answering your question, I want to tell you have we have classes under some awnings and when it rains, we have classes in the church. We are praying for a donor to help us build some classrooms. Thank you for the picture that you sent me. I will be praying for God to help you to lose some weight (I asked her to pray for this. She's not being mean.) Also I want to tell you that I participate in an evangelistic campaign. We give pamphlets around the neighborhood and invite many kids to attend the campaign. I ask you to pray for the campaign. I say goodbye, sending you kisses and hugs.

With Love,
Ayling

Large Round of Manna Letters!

It's that time again! The time to write a long post full of Manna letters! I heard from all ten of my boys and most of them even wrote two letters. I also got some great drawings and one of my boys sent me photos. :)

Manna rolled out some new template letters, as well, which are pretty great. The younger kids wrote about their favorite animals and the older kids wrote about their Easter breaks.

This post will be extremely long. But it is sure to be full of joy!

For old times sake, let's post these from youngest to oldest:

We start with 3 year old Antony, who I assume has dictated the animal template portion of the letter. Then there is also a letter written by his aunt, who is actually a teenager who is sponsored by another woman. One big happy family!

_______________________________________________________________________________

1. My favorite animal is: Dog & Rabbit

2. I like this animal because: they are pretty and their fur is soft

3. Other animals I like are: Fish

4. One animal I'd like to see in person is: Giraffe

5. I have these animals in my home: Hen, rooster, dog, chicks

With love, you are very special to me. I would like to meet you.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Hello! How are you? I hope you find yourself well. I write for my nephew because he can't write yet. Antony is very happy for your letters and photos that you sent. He loves to look at your photo with his mom. It is funny that your mom and sister both wore the same shirt. He also like the two drawings. He like to play with them. Antony had a lot of fun on Children's day. He got a lot of candy. We want to meet you in person. We wait for the day God give us a day to meet and for you to come to Honduras. We love you a lot.

_________________________________________________________________________________

You asked if I am in the same school as my brother. I want to tell you no. My dad can't put me there yet because there is no space in the school. I am not yet in 1st grade. I am in Kindergarten.

I have zero idea what he is talking about, as I was not involved in any kind of climbing challenge. I'm not even sure that I wrote about anything close that could have been mis-translated. From the Field Friday: RW-368

It's our last pastor letter for the year. We have reached the end. Though, I'm sure we'll meet this theme again next year. :)

Our last pastor letter comes from project RW-368, the project that my boy Jule attends. It sounds like Jule lives in an area with a lot of difficulties. I'm thankful to God that Compassion is available to help the children and their families.

________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Kayla,

I am called Mugabe Laurent and I am the pastor of the church associated with the Cyegara Child Development Center where we minister to Jule.

We thank you for your sponsorship and for supporting Jule. May God bless you.

Our community is greatly touched by extreme poverty. Consequently, children constitute the most important part affected by poverty. The challenge our community faces is malnutrition in children and lack of means for going to school. Therefore, children need various things depending on their ages, but most need nutritious food and the ability and supplies to go to school. Both quality and quantity to help them acquire knowledge and skills. Our Center recognizes this and provides this. We develop the children holistically in the spiritual, physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional areas.

The Center impacts more than just children, but all of the community. Some of the children and caregivers have been baptized after being received in the Center and being taught the Word of God. All the children have been given medical insurance and they get hygienic materials on a monthly basis. Caregivers have been taught to regroup themselves in cooperatives to start up income generating activities so that they can free themselves from poverty. Caregivers, children, and social workers visit each other. They are emphasized on training the care givers and children and various topics like how they can prevent themselves from being attacked by malaria and other poor sanitation diseases.

The letters that the children receive from their sponsors are of great value. The relationship is greatly developed and the children feel so happy and loved to hear from their sponsors. The letters and words encourage them in their lives and help them to feel that they have hope and a purpose. The smiles on the faces of the children who receive letters and photos and Bible verses from their sponsors are like gold. They are delighted to write back with news about their lives and their progress. Please do provide this experience for Jule and write letters.

We thank you and praise you for all that you do and sacrifice for Jule and our Center.

We also keep you in our prayers so that God can bless you in all your activities.

With a heart full of joy, may God bless you.

Yours Sincerely,
Pastor Mugabe Laurent
